The meeting point of art and commerce is ever-changing and hard to define. What place does art have in the world of finance? How can young, savvy individuals learn to secure their footing in the world of work through smart investment? What advice do successful entrepreneurs have for the youth of today about finance, culture, and belief in the self? These are all questions ‘Art and the City’ seeks to answer, by interviewing some of the brightest and boldest minds in both the art world and the city.

In this week’s episode, we interview Barty Wardell, the Founder and CEO of Vividata, a technology start-up that uses AI to revolutionize business strategy. He is currently completing a Masters in Engineering at the University of Cambridge, with specialisms in Aeronautics and Materials. He is an active part-time researcher at the Cambridge Centre for Micromechanics, with a focus on computational methods and polymer mechanics, and has previously directed Cambridge University Spaceflight, which is a student organisation on a mission to launch a rocket into space (https://www.cusf.co.uk/).

The conversation begins with Barty admitting that he always knew he wanted to study maths. He went to Cambridge University to satisfy his curiosity for understanding how things are built, made, and function, and soon realised that his passion for the theoretical could also apply functionally to solve real world problems. Barty set up Vividata, his own data-solution enterprise, while also studying. His advice on balancing both? It’s possible to fit it all in if you have a strong idea, and an even stronger team around you!

In this podcast we also speak to Barty about the pressure to play things safely, and how taking risks in life on ideas that you are passionate about can often pay off. We speak about the complex data analysis techniques his company uses, and the role of AI in business industries, as well as his belief that Vividata can benefit any company around the world with the goal of becoming more efficient in their relationship with data and metrics.
