The Engagement Appeal x Joseph Vambe: Labour Labs and Young Leadership

Nov 13, 2024 | ArtXCity, Corporates, Insights

The meeting point of art and commerce is an ever-changing and chimeric point of interaction. What place does art have in the world of finance? How can young, savvy individuals learn to secure their footing in the world of work through smart investment? What advice do successful entrepreneurs have for the youth of today about finance, culture, and belief in the self? These are all questions ‘Art and the City’ seeks to answer, by interviewing some of the brightest and boldest minds in both the art world and the city.

In today’s episode of Art and the City we have the pleasure of interviewing The Engagement Appeal’s Education and Policy Ambassador Joseph Vambe. Joseph is a Labour Party Councillor for Southwark Council, a role he obtained shortly after graduating from Cambridge University, where he was one of the UK’s first Stormzy scholars. He has a background in leadership, youth community engagement and fundraising, as well as working with The Engagement Appeal on its mission to make the stock market more diverse, equitable, and intelligible for the layman.

Joseph talks us through his path to becoming a councillor, considering his early study of economics a key factor in his interest in people and policy. He remembers pivotal moments when economic terms and case studies became applicable to his everyday surroundings, and inspired him to bring his study to life.

Joseph is passionate about social mobility within this local community, and claims that as a councillor one of his biggest desires is to create opportunities for people from deprived backgrounds, and give them a fair chance to thrive. We are thrilled that Joseph is now working with us on our ‘Labour Labs’ project, which aims to give the general public more information about his goals and values as a council member, and the impact this could have on the country and the economy.
